A portable toolbox for network admins, software developers, and IT road warriors

over 750 free power-tools in an organized structure you can customize, extend, and carry in your pocket !

PMToolindex features an 'Acquisition Wizard' which allows you to select from a long list ( over 60 at this time ) of great free power-tool programs ( you can always add your own favorites manually later ! ).  Under your guidance and selections, it will download the ZIP files, unzip them, and place them in the 'relative path' folder structure, then it will index them and set them up in categories, all with just two clicks ( in total, not 'two clicks per file ! ).

Everything in the Wizard is optional. You can skip it, and manually download or add items, or go to the Main screen. If you want to see the Wizard again, you can always select it under the menu item 'File / Installation and Acquisition Wizard' of PMToolindex.

I distribute only my own original work product, data and text files, etc. I do not have the legal right or permission to distribute anyone else's programs, files or products, and I do not do so. Also, everything I link to or suggest is all 'legitimate' software, of course ! No 'Warez', 'Crack's 'n Hacks', 'Keygens', 'BitTorrents', 'Pirate sites', 'Serialz', etc ! I will never knowingly point anyone to those kinds of sites, which I refer to cumulatively as 'I_Want_A_Nice_Virus_Or_Trojan_On_My_Computer_Please.com'

Some programs I reference / recommend, such as a few ( not all ) from NIRSOFT, may trigger 'false positives' in various virus scanners, such as Mcafee. I've discussed this with the author at NIRSOFT, for instance. These programs are legit, but some of the programming techniques he uses are falsely identified as 'possible trojans'. I've been using Nirsoft's programs for years and never had a problem ( other than 'false positives' from virus scanners ) I've tested them under packet-scanners ( DPI - Deep Packet Inspection ), port-scanners, etc. IMO they are 'legit'. It is of course up to you as to how to handle them, or whether to allow them, on your computer(s).

That being said, here's the fast two-click process to get and set up > 250 free tools ( > 750 if you count links to Windows\System32 files , > 1,000 if you also count Windows\SysWOW64 files on 64 bit systems ) !

Click # 1 - 'Download checked items' and wait for them to download ( often 5 - 10 minutes, depending on your download speed, and what items you selected )

I made this into two separate clicks here so you can stop and virus-check the downloaded files, etc, if you wish - otherwise it would have been a 'one click solution' !

Click # 2 - 'Unzip and index checked items' ( ~ 1 - 2 minutes )

Go to the 'Main screen' menu item, you're done. Enjoy.

As I worked through the development of PMToolindex, I realized that the biggest PITA was getting and unzipping all the cool free tools I found all over the Web, and integrating them into the PMToolindexMaster indexing / labelling structure. Spending many hours going to websites, downloading free files, unzipping them, telling PMToolindex about them, etc really sucked. So, I decided to automate that task for you.

The Wizard allows you to select a series of automated downloads, which will :

Download the proffered free programs / packages ( after reviewing the associated websites if you wish )

Save them to an appropriate folder under PMToolindex

Un-zip as needed ( after your per / item approval / virus scanning / etc )

Create categorized labeled item entries in your PMToolindex Master file index for each program.

If you choose to complete this Wizard, you will have > 250 way-cool Power Tools ( taking ~ 250 MB all said and done ) from all over the Web, all downloaded, un-Zip'd, identified and indexed, and ready to use, with basically two clicks. The folder and pathing structure that I set up for you here is designed to be easily transportable to, and run from, a USB stick, another computer, or from any server on the LAN, as desired. Just copy the entire PMToolindex folder, and all sub-folders ( which will contain the tools you download here ), to your desired location ( after running this Wizard here ! ).

Unzip PMToolindex.zip to any folder location and name of your choice. C:\PMToolIndex will work nicely, if you like. No installation process should be required. Then run this wizard there, or make your other adds and edits to PMToolindex at any time via the menu item 'File / Edit'. Your 'Master' copy that you create here is where you make any changes, then you just copy the PMToolindex folder and sub-folders ( which contain the tools, ZIP's, installers, etc ) wherever you want.

All the tools entries are 'relative pathed', such that they will all run anywhere you copy the PMToolindex folder /sub-folders ( USB stick, LAN shared folder or server, etc ), even if the path, drive letter, or sub-folder structure over PMToolindex is different.

This includes network pathing - you can have your master copy of PMToolindex on a server, and run it from there ( and all the tools it contains, which can also be on other different machines on the LAN if you like ) from any machine on the LAN, as well as from any USB stick. Network admins and help desk support staff will appreciate this !

PMToolindex, and most of the tools I link to, will run on any XP SP 2/3 or better Windows machine ( Vista x32 / x64, Windows 7 x32 / x64, Windows servers, etc ) without the need to run any installation routine, so you can run directly from a USB stick or network folder without changing or installing anything on the target / local machine.

Some of the programs I link to and acquire for you here in this wizard do require installation routines ( the free virus scanners, CCleaner's great tools, VirtualCloneDrive, etc ), so I set those installers up here ( when possible ) to be able to run from your USB stick or LAN without needing an Internet connection on the target local machine.

Some sites, such as CCleaner's several way-cool free products, do not offer direct links of the kind I can offer here, so go to their websites, and download their installers ! Copy them into the folder 'PMToolindex/Misc', and run them from there !
